Engineering Manager, Computing Platform

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential technology organization in their search for an Engineering Manager, Computing Platform based in Berlin, Germany. This is a high-impact leadership role on a foundational platform team that enables engineers to build and ship business logic at scale without the operational overhead of managing services themselves.

You'll lead a team of 5 engineers working on mission-critical infrastructure that simplifies backend development, reduces cross-team friction, and powers product delivery across multiple brands and geographies. This is a rare opportunity to shape technical direction, grow a strong team, and influence developer productivity at a massive scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, fostering clarity, strong execution habits, and a healthy engineering culture
• Own the team's roadmap and delivery across core platform areas including performance, scaling, resource management, I/O optimization, integrations, developer experience, and observability
• Partner with adjacent platform teams and product domains to translate their needs into platform capabilities and smooth adoption paths
• Guide architectural and technical decisions for the computing platform runtime and developer-facing APIs, balancing reliability, simplicity, and long-term extensibility
• Improve operational excellence by enhancing reliability, debuggability, and support for teams running production workloads on the platform
• Help shape the platform's evolution through hiring, prioritization, cross-team alignment, and organizational leadership

What We're Looking For

• At least 3+ years of solid experience as an engineering manager, including directly leading and growing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
• At least 5+ years of strong background in backend, infrastructure, product, or platform engineering with good technical judgment in distributed systems, runtime platforms, or developer-facing infrastructure
• Proven ability to turn ambitious platform vision into clear priorities, pragmatic execution plans, and reliable delivery
• Comfort working across team boundaries and partnering with engineering, product, and platform stakeholders to drive alignment and adoption
• Deep care for people leadership with demonstrated ability to coach engineers, create clarity, and build high-performing team cultures
• High standards for engineering quality, reliability, and operational excellence, with ability to help teams navigate production challenges calmly and systematically
