Design Engineer (UI, Frontend)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential client in the electric mobility sector who is building next-generation platforms that simplify EV charging across consumer and business markets. Their engineering teams work across web, mobile, and in-vehicle experiences serving users globally.

As a Design Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of visual craft and front-end development, building high-impact marketing experiences, web applications, and refined UI for both B2B and consumer-facing platforms. You'll bridge the gap between design and engineering, transforming early concepts and prototypes into polished, accessible production code.

Responsibilities

• Concept, prototype, and build web experiences across public-facing marketing pages, landing pages, and core application UI
• Evolve a shared component library into a mature design system by building robust components and establishing conventions
• Refine micro-interactions, motion, and visual polish within web applications to maintain craft quality under tight timelines
• Translate unfinished inputs—from rough Figma sketches to early prototypes—into clean, accessible code
• Collaborate directly with designers, product managers, and engineers as the bridge between design intent and shipped software

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 2+ years in front-end development, design engineering, or creative technology
• Comfort routinely using AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot, or equivalent) to accelerate exploration and delivery
• Strong fundamentals in React and Next.js, with experience contributing clean code to shared repositories
• Enthusiasm for foundational design system work—elevating component libraries into mature, scalable systems
• Portfolio demonstrating visual craft, motion/animation, interactive web projects, or design system contributions
• Solid understanding of composition, spatial layout, visual hierarchy, typography, and easing curves
• Working knowledge of accessibility practices up to WCAG 2.1 AA standards

Bonus experience:

• Component documentation tools like Storybook for design system architecture
• Automated testing frameworks such as Playwright and Jest
• Web observability, monitoring tools, or A/B testing platforms
• Running automated accessibility tests (e.g., axe-core)
