DATA ENGINEER*IN (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential media and technology organization seeking a Data Engineer to own and evolve their critical data infrastructure. In this role, you will:

• Build, operate, and monitor ELT pipeline infrastructure using Airflow DAGs on Cloud Composer, managing connector landscapes including Airbyte and Fivetran across 28+ external systems
• Develop custom Airflow operators for data sources lacking standard connectors and integrate new sources into the data warehouse environment
• Operate and optimize BigQuery infrastructure, including performance tuning, partitioning and clustering strategies, query cost monitoring, and raw zone schema management
• Ensure data reliability through comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems, maintaining source freshness checks and proactively detecting pipeline failures before business units are impacted
• Advance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for ingestion and dbt workflows, actively participating in code reviews
• Establish the foundational infrastructure for strategic data initiatives, including central audience data platforms, contributing architectural ideas and tooling recommendations

What We're Looking For

• Several years of professional Data Engineering experience with responsibility for ELT/ETL pipelines and data orchestration in production environments
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL with solid hands-on experience using Airflow or Cloud Composer
• Deep knowledge of BigQuery (performance optimization, cost management, permissions) and foundational GCP experience including IAM, Cloud Storage, and ideally Workload Identity Federation
• Experience with dbt, Fivetran, or Airbyte preferred; familiarity with Docker, Terraform, or Cloud Monitoring is a plus
• Self-directed, structured approach to work with enthusiasm for owning business-critical infrastructure
• Fluent German language skills and good English proficiency, both written and spoken
• Located in or willing to relocate to Hamburg, Germany
