About This Opportunity

We are representing a government technology services contractor in their search for an experienced Data Engineer / Data Modeler. Our client specializes in delivering secure, mission-critical data solutions for federal healthcare and environmental programs. This is a remote opportunity where you'll architect scalable data systems that support large-scale analytics while meeting rigorous federal security and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain scalable database architectures optimized for analytical workloads, implementing indexing, partitioning, caching, and query tuning strategies
  • Develop, automate, and maintain data ingestion, transformation, validation, and loading pipelines that ensure high-quality data flows
  • Build reusable data connection modules and backend infrastructure components to streamline operations and enable future scalability
  • Support data preprocessing, normalization, and rigorous quality validation processes
  • Contribute to cloud migration planning, governance frameworks, and evaluation of cloud solutions for security, compliance, interoperability, and performance
  • Produce comprehensive data models, architecture diagrams, flowcharts, and technical documentation for diverse stakeholder audiences
  • Utilize PowerShell scripting and automation to enhance data engineering workflows and system integration
  • Collaborate with technical teams, security experts, and government program stakeholders throughout project lifecycles

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, database administration, or data architecture
  • Proven experience designing and optimizing scalable database architectures for analytical workloads, including query performance tuning (indexing, partitioning, caching)
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated data ingestion, transformation, validation, and loading pipelines
  • Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar relational databases
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data transformation, automation, or pipeline development
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) for cloud-hosted data solutions
  • Knowledge of FedRAMP requirements and cloud security best practices
  • Proficiency using Git with documented development practices
  • Experience designing data models for analytics (dimensional star/snowflake and/or normalized relational models)
  • Experience collaborating with government program stakeholders and security/privacy personnel, presenting technical deliverables to diverse audiences
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier 4 (High-Risk) Public Trust and HSPD-12/PIV credentialing
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% as needed

Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory and at least two of the following: Azure SQL, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Functions
  • Active Public Trust clearance
