Counsel, Product & Regulatory – Payments & AML

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential fintech client seeking a Counsel, Product & Regulatory (Payments & AML) to navigate complex challenges at the intersection of product development, regulation, and financial infrastructure.

In this role, you will:

• Advise on payments products and infrastructure across a broad portfolio of initiatives, including payment rails, product launches, operational incidents, partner relationships, and customer-facing experiences
• Partner across Product, Compliance, Risk, Engineering, Operations, Partnerships, and Legal teams as a low-ego, high-ownership thought partner embedded early in decision-making processes
• Support the launch of new payment capabilities from early exploration through implementation, helping teams identify risks, evaluate options, and make sound decisions in ambiguous environments
• Collaborate closely with AML Advisory, Sanctions, Compliance, and Risk teams on financial crimes compliance matters, interpreting requirements and developing practical guidance
• Build scalable frameworks and guidance that improve consistency, reduce friction, and enable better organizational decision-making over time
• Leverage AI tools intentionally within legal workflows to drive efficiency and effectiveness
• Stay adaptable as regulatory and product landscapes evolve, embracing complexity while continuing to learn

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking candidates with:

• 4+ years of legal experience
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• Experience supporting fintechs, banks, payment companies, sponsor-bank programs, payment networks, BaaS providers, or regulators with substantial payments or AML exposure
• Strong working knowledge of payments-related regulatory frameworks and interest in emerging areas like stablecoins
• Familiarity with BSA/AML and sanctions requirements
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences
• Strong judgment and comfort operating in ambiguous environments
• Proactive ownership mindset and willingness to say "I don't know yet, but I'll find out"
• Genuine curiosity about financial products, infrastructure, and the evolving regulatory landscape
• Working knowledge of AI use cases within legal roles and/or financial services, with genuine interest in using AI to drive efficiency

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai varies by location:

• US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $186,400–$209,700 USD
• US employees outside of New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $167,800–$188,700 USD
• Canadian employees (any location): $176,100–$198,200 CAD

Compensation includes base salary, equity, and benefits.
