Senior Software Engineer, Java

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential streaming technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Java expertise to join their Enterprise Engineering team in Manchester. In this senior technical lead role, you will design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications and services that power critical business processes across the organization.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing multi-tier web applications and microservices, contributing to technology stack decisions, use case design, and data modeling
• Driving architecture discussions and taking ownership of new projects with tight delivery timelines
• Partnering with security and compliance teams to ensure applications meet regulatory and audit requirements
• Participating in continual improvement of engineering tools, cloud-based technologies, and development processes
• Working within Agile development processes including scoping, technical design, effort estimation, coding, testing, debugging, and code reviews
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams across Finance, Sales Operations, Human Resources, and Supply Chain

What We're Looking For

Our client needs a self-driven problem solver with a proven track record in building large-scale software platforms. The ideal candidate brings:

• 5+ years of experience delivering multi-tier, highly scalable, distributed web applications
• Deep understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design principles, and data structures
• Extensive experience developing microservices using Java and Python
• Strong background in test-driven development and automating test cases using Java or Python
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (Oracle, Cassandra)
• Demonstrated ability to be proactive and make practical trade-offs based on business needs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Highly valued additional experience:

• Distributed computing frameworks such as Hive/Hadoop and Apache Spark
• Finance or HR-related application development
• AWS cloud services including Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, CloudFront, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, Elastic Cache, and Lambda
• Infrastructure as code using Terraform
• Workflow creation for Apache Airflow

This is a hybrid role with in-office attendance Monday through Thursday, with Fridays typically flexible for remote work.
