About This Opportunity

We are representing a global commodities trading organization in their search for analytical talent to join their London-based front office teams. This six-month internship program (15 June – 16 December 2027) offers hands-on experience at the intersection of commodities markets, data analytics, and trading operations.

Our client operates across macro commodities, power markets, and systematic trading strategies. The program provides exposure to real commercial decision-making, forecasting, and market analysis through structured projects that directly support trading desks.

Available opportunities include Macro Commodities Analytics, Structured UK Power Analytics, and Systematic Quantitative Development roles. Final placement will depend on business needs, your profile, and overall fit with the team.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with front office teams on data-driven projects supporting macro commodities, systematic trading, or structured power markets
• Analyze market, trading, and alternative datasets to extract insights that inform forecasting, valuation, and commercial decisions
• Develop, test, and refine analytical tools, models, dashboards, or workflows using Python and related technologies
• Support forecasting activities, financial modeling, machine learning applications, or quantitative analysis based on desk requirements
• Conduct targeted market research and present findings clearly to both technical and commercial stakeholders
• Contribute to daily desk operations while building practical understanding of how analytics drives trading and portfolio decisions

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline: Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, Finance, or related STEM field
• Demonstrated proficiency in Python with ability to analyze, manipulate, and interpret complex datasets
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities with structured, detail-oriented approach
• Evidence of applying data analysis, coding, or quantitative methods to practical problems through academic projects, internships, research, or personal initiatives
• Genuine interest in commodities, power, or financial markets with ability to discuss relevant market developments
• Business-level English proficiency
• Right to work in the UK for the full six-month duration (15 June – 16 December 2027)
• Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset for working with commercial and technical teams
• Intellectual curiosity and motivation to understand how market fundamentals, data, and commercial decisions intersect
• Full-time availability for on-site work in London throughout the internship period

Advantageous experience:

• SQL, machine learning, financial modeling, advanced Excel, or alternative dataset analysis
• Forecasting models, valuation techniques, optimization, time-series analysis, or handling large market datasets
