Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential pharmaceutical organization seeking an Associate Director, Medical Affairs to serve as a scientific leader across strategic medical initiatives. In this role, you will independently lead high-value programs including thought leader engagement, scientific congress coverage, medical communications, publications, literature surveillance, and insight generation. You will translate clinical evidence and stakeholder insights into actionable recommendations that shape Medical Affairs priorities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Serving as scientific subject-matter expert, translating clinical evidence and emerging scientific developments into balanced recommendations for Medical Affairs strategy
- Developing and maintaining compliant relationships with key thought leaders, healthcare professionals, and external scientific experts
- Planning and conducting scientific exchanges, advisory boards, roundtables, consensus initiatives, and other external engagements
- Providing scientific coverage at national and regional congresses, including session prioritization, coverage planning, insight capture, and post-congress reporting
- Leading scientific strategy and execution of Medical Affairs booth presence at congresses, including educational content and scientific exchange
- Leading or supporting scientific communications, including medical education materials, congress resources, presentations, and standard response documents
- Supporting publication activities such as literature reviews, abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and white papers
- Conducting literature surveillance and synthesizing relevant scientific, clinical, safety, and competitive developments
- Aggregating and analyzing insights from various sources to identify evidence gaps, educational needs, and strategic opportunities
- Representing Medical Affairs on cross-functional teams and providing scientific expertise to internal stakeholders
- Serving as trained backup for defined Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information, and Product Complaint activities
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced scientific or healthcare degree such as PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, or another relevant advanced degree
- Four or more years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience, preferably including Medical Affairs experience
- Strong scientific and clinical acumen, including knowledge of medical terminology, clinical study design, biostatistics, evidence appraisal, and interpretation of clinical and real-world evidence
- Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and synthesize complex scientific information and translate findings into clear, balanced recommendations
- Strong scientific writing and communication capabilities, including experience developing medical education materials, evidence summaries, abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and presentations
- Working knowledge of publication standards, copyright requirements, scientific exchange principles, and applicable Medical Affairs regulations and industry guidance
- Ability to establish credible and compliant relationships with thought leaders and healthcare professionals
- Strong presentation skills and ability to adapt complex scientific information for diverse audiences
- Strategic thinking and sound judgment to connect scientific evidence with broader Medical Affairs priorities
- Strong project and program management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive deliverables
- Strong awareness of quality, compliance, and risk management principles
- Fluent English communication skills and willingness to travel overnight approximately 20%, including for scientific congresses
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends for congress schedules or external engagements
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information, or product complaints
- Experience with thought leader engagement, scientific exchange, congress planning or coverage, and scientific communications
