Support Engineer Firewall & Netzwerk (m/w/d)

We are representing a confidential IT services organization seeking a Support Engineer for Firewall & Network in Heidelberg. This is an excellent opportunity to specialize in network security rather than remain a generalist across all IT disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Receive, analyze, and resolve network and firewall-related incidents and requests via phone, email, and ticketing system
• Configure and maintain firewalls including rule sets, NAT, and VPN configurations
• Administer network components such as switches and access points
• Set up and support site-to-site and client VPN connections
• Troubleshoot network issues involving DNS, DHCP, VLAN, and routing alongside customers
• Document configurations, changes, and technical solutions
• Serve as technical escalation point for the service desk on network and firewall topics
• Collaborate with senior support engineers on complex issues and project work
• Work according to defined processes and quality standards

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Completed IT training (such as IT specialist for system integration) or comparable practical experience
• Professional experience in IT support, service desk, or system administration
• Fundamental understanding of networks (TCP/IP, VLAN, routing, DNS, DHCP)
• Initial hands-on experience with enterprise firewalls and/or network components
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows client operating systems
• Enthusiasm for analyzing technical problems and interest in specializing in network and security environments
• Service-oriented and customer-focused mindset
• Independent and structured work approach
• Excellent German language skills and good English proficiency

Preferred:

• Experience in managed service provider or system integrator environments
• Familiarity with centralized network management platforms
• Vendor certifications in network security or routing/switching
• Basic knowledge of Windows Server environments, Active Directory, or Microsoft 365
• Exposure to virtualization technologies
• ITIL knowledge or corresponding certifications
• Valid driver's license (Class B)
