About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential social platform organization based in Berlin, and our talent team is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to own critical data pipelines from end to end. This role offers the opportunity to build self-service data infrastructure that empowers both technical teams and AI agents, working with modern tooling in a collaborative, hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own data pipelines end-to-end, from stakeholder metric definition through dbt modeling, quality assurance, and A/B testing, to orchestration scheduling and production deployment
  • Transform data access from ad-hoc reporting requests into self-service systems that deliver reliable answers to both colleagues and AI agents
  • Maintain steering metrics as governed metrics-as-code to ensure accuracy and trust across the organization
  • Build and maintain relevance and content pipelines that support platform operations
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and stakeholders to translate data requirements into production-ready models
  • Ensure data governance standards for quality, security, and compliance are upheld
  • Support the team in improving personalized recommendations and other machine learning algorithms

Technical stack: dbt, Snowflake, MotherDuck, Dagster, SQL, Python, AWS, GitHub Actions, Docker, VS Code

What We're Looking For

Must-have qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a data engineering role with solid understanding of data warehousing and ETL concepts
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience running dbt models in production environments
  • Experience with an orchestration tool such as Dagster
  • Track record of building and operating data or information infrastructure that other teams rely upon
  • Ability to work effectively with both backend/infrastructure engineers and non-technical stakeholders, translating between technical and business requirements
  • Experience with a cloud data warehouse, ideally Snowflake, and a cloud provider, ideally AWS
  • Proficiency with version control systems, ideally Git
  • Experience working with AI coding tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality standards
  • Practical knowledge of GDPR and Article 9, including designing compliant data access for both people and automated agents

Nice-to-have qualifications:

  • Experience taking a ranking or recommendation pipeline through to production
  • Familiarity with ML concepts sufficient to collaborate effectively with ML engineers
  • Experience or interest in working with data agents and ensuring their reliability
  • Understanding of modern data and AI tooling, agentic systems, and how curation and semantic context impact agent trustworthiness
  • Leadership or mentoring experience, or readiness to grow into these responsibilities

Personal attributes:

  • Clear communicator who can explain complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Stays current with new tools and trends in the field and enjoys sharing knowledge with the team
  • Values diversity, collaboration, and inclusion, and contributes to a welcoming team culture
  • Systems builder mentality, energized by creating infrastructure that accelerates others
  • Takes ownership of unsolved problems rather than waiting for solutions to emerge
