Quality Engineering Lead (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential e-commerce technology organization in their search for a Quality Engineering Lead to join their growing team. This is a fully remote position based in Germany, offering the opportunity to lead a talented quality engineering team while staying hands-on with testing strategy and automation.

In this role, you will guide and develop a team of quality engineers, combining people leadership with practical work in testing and automation. You will collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to identify risks early and continuously improve software development and release processes.

Responsibilities

• Translate business objectives and product priorities into a quality engineering roadmap with clear, measurable improvement goals
• Lead, mentor, and develop your team through regular feedback, performance conversations, and individual career development; support hiring and onboarding activities
• Define testing strategy and quality standards in collaboration with engineering colleagues across product teams
• Prioritize and distribute quality engineering tasks according to product risks, roadmap objectives, and team capacity
• Contribute hands-on to test design, test automation, and exploratory testing efforts
• Support analysis of complex defects and validate changes that impact multiple product areas
• Guide quality engineers, developers, and product managers across teams in implementing the testing strategy and building quality into planning and development from the start
• Improve testing tools and practices, including responsible use of AI-assisted testing approaches
• Leverage customer issues, defects, and test reliability data to identify improvement opportunities
• Support product releases by communicating test results, remaining risks, and clear quality recommendations to release coordinators

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Experience leading a technical team, including coaching, performance conversations, and individual development
• Practical experience in software testing, test strategy development, and test automation, including approaches such as end-to-end, API, integration, or unit testing
• Experience defining and presenting quality metrics, and using them alongside test results and risk assessments to identify gaps and support decision-making
• Strong ability to set priorities, delegate tasks, and collaborate effectively with engineering and product colleagues
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs clearly; German language skills are not required

Helpful but not required:

• Experience with e-commerce platforms, open-source software, cloud applications, upgrades and migrations, or AI-assisted development and test automation
