About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization based in München that is expanding their backend engineering team. This is a senior-level position focused on building the platform infrastructure and clinical system integrations that support healthcare professionals in patient care settings.

You will design and operate production services that power mobile and web applications, manage healthcare data flows, and integrate with hospital systems across both cloud and on-premise environments. This role offers substantial architectural influence—you'll help shape integration strategies and platform evolution, not just implement predetermined specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate production backend services that support clinical applications
  • Develop APIs consumed by mobile and web clients
  • Work with clinical data and healthcare interoperability standards
  • Own end-to-end service quality including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production diagnostics
  • Produce technical documentation and evidence required in regulated medical device development processes
  • Contribute to architectural decisions spanning cloud and on-premise deployment models
  • Participate in healthcare workflow integrations including imaging systems

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Several years of professional experience building and operating backend systems in production
  • Strong understanding of API design, data modeling, and distributed system architecture
  • Hands-on experience with containers, relational databases, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proficiency in at least one modern backend language with openness to work across technologies (the team currently uses Python, Go,.NET, and Rust)
  • AI-native development approach—actively leveraging modern AI-assisted tools to improve productivity and code quality while understanding their limitations
  • Structured, quality-focused working style suitable for regulated environments
  • Professional English communication skills

Preferred:

  • German language proficiency
  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR, HL7, or interface engines like Mirth or Rhapsody
  • Knowledge of DICOM and medical imaging workflows
  • Experience developing regulated medical software or working in safety-critical industries
  • Experience deploying software in customer-managed or on-premise infrastructure
  • AWS experience
  • Android development experience with Kotlin and/or Flutter
  • Interest in growing technical ownership and influence
