About This Role

We are representing a confidential rail transport organization seeking a Manager of Operational Planning to join their team in Berlin. This is an excellent opportunity to shape mobility solutions in a dynamic, international environment where your contributions will have direct impact on daily operations.

In this role, you will be responsible for the year-round planning of train services, with particular focus on creating efficient duty schedules for train personnel including drivers, conductors, and assistants. You'll handle both regular and special service plans, manage short-notice operational changes, and develop solutions that balance operational stability with economic efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage efficient duty schedules for train personnel (drivers, conductors, assistants) for both regular and special service plans
• Specialize in processing short-notice special services and operational changes, including locomotive and wagon transfers and special trips
• Develop service plans that comply with operational requirements and legal regulations to ensure stable operations and employee satisfaction
• Create economically viable solutions during construction work and operational restrictions, developing both short-term and long-term timetable concepts
• Coordinate routes, service facilities, workshop capacities, and operational resources in close cooperation with internal and external partners
• Analyze ongoing operations to identify optimization potential and contribute insights to continuous process improvement

What We're Looking For

• Initial experience in operational, duty, or traffic planning in rail transport
• Education or degree in transportation, logistics, or a comparable field (preferred but not required)
• Strong technical and economic understanding to grasp complex relationships and develop pragmatic solutions
• Structured working approach, sense of responsibility, and strong hands-on mentality
• Familiarity with planning software such as TPN, FBS, IVU, WILSON, or comparable systems—or motivation to learn quickly
• Excellent German language skills (C1 level) and confident use of MS Office; additional languages are a plus
