Senior Software Engineer (BackEnd)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential electric vehicle technology company based in London. Our talent team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Python and backend expertise to join a product-focused engineering organisation that is transforming how consumers access sustainable transportation.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in London, working within cross-functional teams to build scalable systems and APIs that power critical business operations.

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust APIs, integrating internal and third-party services to optimise and automate core business processes
• Architect and evolve backend systems and data models that are performant, scalable, and maintainable
• Work across multiple data sources, designing expressive, well-structured schemas
• Contribute to frontend applications when needed, helping shape user experiences
• Take ownership of features from inception through to delivery
• Share knowledge, mentor team members, and contribute to engineering excellence across the organisation
• Leverage AI tooling to augment development workflows

What We're Looking For

Essential skills and experience:

• Deep expertise in Python with strong software engineering fundamentals
• Proven experience designing and building APIs, ideally using GraphQL
• Comfort working with multiple data sources, including PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases
• Excellent understanding of core software engineering principles and best practices
• Track record of building robust, scalable, maintainable systems
• Proven experience collaborating within teams and across disciplines
• Experience using AI technology and tooling to augment development
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership and deliver features end-to-end

Bonus qualifications:

• Strong frontend experience with React, TypeScript, and Next.js
• Experience with event-driven architecture and systems
• Production experience with AI technology and tooling
