Founding Engineer – Ambient Care Startup

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology client in their search for a Founding Engineer. This pre-seed venture is developing ambient monitoring solutions for vulnerable populations, working to detect changes in wellbeing before they become emergencies. You'll join as the technical co-founder alongside an established CEO, with dedicated studio support and investment to move from concept to market-ready product within six months.

This is a rare opportunity to build both the hardware and software foundations of a safety-critical product, with real authority over technical decisions and the responsibility to grow the engineering team that follows.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end hardware validation and bench testing, establishing the manufacturing pathway whether through outsourced partners or in-house capabilities
• Ensure rigorous testing protocols for sensor platforms before deployment, prioritizing safety and reliability in home environments
• Build software systems that transform sensor data into actionable insights, including detection logic, alerting mechanisms, and escalation workflows
• Navigate regulatory compliance and security requirements for embedded systems and personally identifiable information (PII) from day one
• Lead vendor and manufacturing negotiations to secure production capabilities and favorable terms
• Hire, mentor, and lead the engineering team as the organization scales beyond this founding role

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Proven experience taking hardware products from 0 to 1 in startup environments, with comfort spanning embedded systems and software development
• Track record leveraging AI to accelerate engineering work, prototyping, and startup operations
• Experience leading or building small engineering teams, or clear readiness to step into technical leadership
• Proactive, evidence-first approach to problem-solving with comfort in ambiguous environments
• Background with regulatory, security, or compliance requirements in health tech, medical devices, or similar safety- and privacy-regulated domains
• Understanding that building for vulnerable populations requires elevated standards for what constitutes "done"
• Capability to lead vendor negotiations and establish manufacturing partnerships

Highly valued:

• Direct experience navigating product certification processes (CE/UKCA, FDA, or equivalent regulatory frameworks)
