Senior Engineering Manager Java

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing SaaS organization headquartered in France with a global footprint. Our client operates in the e-commerce platform space, serving hundreds of enterprise customers worldwide. They are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager with deep Java expertise to lead critical engineering teams in Bordeaux.

In this role, you will manage approximately 12 engineers across two squads focused on seller experience and marketplace channel integrations. You'll partner closely with Product and Design while maintaining a high technical bar and driving execution in a fast-paced, international environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop two engineering squads responsible for seller journey functionality and integrations with major external marketplaces including Amazon, Walmart, and Zalando
• Ensure reliable delivery and maintain high engineering standards across both teams
• Partner with Product and Design to define priorities, translate business needs into execution plans, and balance trade-offs between delivery speed, quality, and technical sustainability
• Drive technical direction for your scope, challenging architectural choices and ensuring solutions are scalable and maintainable
• Raise best practices in testing, observability, and incident management across teams
• Coach engineers and tech leads, identify growth opportunities, run performance and career conversations, and contribute to talent acquisition
• Build strong operating models that protect team focus, foster ownership, and enable effective collaboration with distributed international stakeholders
• Manage delivery, priorities, and trade-offs across multiple teams simultaneously in a demanding environment

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• At least 4-5 years of experience managing engineering teams, with a track record of leading teams of 5-6+ engineers, ideally across multiple squads
• Proven experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, channel management, feed management, catalog management, or order management domains
• Solid Java background with depth to challenge architectural decisions, assess technical trade-offs, and credibly manage Java engineering teams
• Demonstrated ability to deliver in fast-moving environments while protecting team focus and adapting management approach to context
• Experience collaborating with international and cross-functional stakeholders across time zones

Technical Skills:

• Strong engineering leadership: ability to set direction, delegate effectively, and develop people at all levels
• Technical judgment to engage in Java architecture discussions, challenge integration design choices, and guide engineers on complex distributed systems
• Experience with Java (recent versions), Spring Framework, SQL, cloud platforms, and microservices architecture

Language Requirements:

• Fluent English (mandatory): approximately 50% of working time will be in English with US-based and international partners
• French: full professional proficiency required

Location: Based in Bordeaux, France office with one day of remote work per week.
