About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI research organization seeking a Product Counsel specializing in Data & Search to join their London office. This is a high-impact, build-stage role working at the frontier of AI law. You will serve as the primary legal contact for data acquisition, model training, and emerging agentic search capabilities, translating complex US and international legal frameworks into actionable product roadmaps.

This position offers the opportunity to shape legal strategy during a period of rapid growth, working alongside research, engineering, product, and safety teams to ensure responsible AI development while maintaining competitive velocity.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary legal counsel for pre-training and data teams, advising on laws and regulations impacting data acquisition and utilization for AI model development
• Provide legal guidance on agentic and search-based product proposals in this rapidly evolving regulatory landscape
• Advise on intellectual property, privacy, licensing, and AI-specific compliance requirements related to data use
• Design and implement data integrity standards, provenance tracking, and risk management processes for AI training data
• Develop policies ensuring models meet current and emerging data usage requirements across multiple jurisdictions
• Partner with cross-functional teams to establish risk-based compliance frameworks for AI model releases
• Advise on data considerations in commercial transactions, partnerships, and research collaborations
• Monitor regulatory developments from US Congress, the White House, EU, UK, and other authorities, translating them into practical operational guidance
• Build escalation pathways and business-facing guidance that enable rapid decision-making with defensible compliance posture

What We're Looking For

• J.D. and active bar membership (or in-house registration) in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• Approximately 10+ years of product counseling experience in the technology sector
• Strong background in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, advanced computing, or strategically sensitive technologies
• Demonstrated experience identifying and addressing complex legal issues relating to product development, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and privacy
• Experience advising on U.S. and international legal and regulatory matters applicable to AI products and data usage
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in areas where law is evolving and regulatory guidance is incomplete
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills with ability to explain complex legal requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Prior experience at a high-growth technology company or AI organization addressing data acquisition and usage legal risks (highly preferred)
• Experience with open-source technology frameworks (bonus)
• Prior experience with agentic or search capabilities in AI development context (bonus)
