About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential federal technology services organization seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to join their mission-critical infrastructure team. This remote-eligible role (US-based) offers the opportunity to architect and implement advanced network security solutions in a high-availability government environment.

You'll serve as a technical anchor driving network modernization efforts, transitioning legacy architectures to secure, cloud-integrated Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) 3.0 frameworks. This position requires a proactive problem-solver comfortable working in a high-tempo, availability-first environment supporting national security initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and maintain geographically distributed network perimeters; architect secure site-to-site IPsec VPN tunnels and engineer the transition from TIC 2.0 colocation centers to cloud-integrated TIC 3.0 secure overlays
  • Perform expert-level administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of enterprise firewall and switching infrastructure including Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls, Fortinet FortiGate appliances, Juniper and Brocade switches
  • Maintain network configuration baselines using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) techniques; collaborate with development teams to write and execute Ansible playbooks and GitLab CI/CD pipelines for automation of VLAN assignments, port configuration, and dynamic DNS controls
  • Utilize packet brokers and monitoring tools to analyze network flows, detect anomalous lateral movement, and integrate out-of-band probing utilities for continuous perimeter performance tracking
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of network cabling, IP addresses, MAC addresses, and VLAN assignments; generate dynamic topology maps and automate configuration drift audits
  • Collaborate with ISSO and Vulnerability Assessment Teams to run network scans, analyze results, apply Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs/CIS), and execute remediation activities
  • Configure and maintain High-Availability (HA) firewalls, diagnose active-active split-brain states, and participate in 24/7 on-call rotation with strict one-hour response windows for service-impacting events

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field with 5+ years of direct Systems or Network Engineering experience; OR Associate's degree with 8+ years of experience; OR 11+ years of relevant experience with no degree
  • Minimum 3 years hands-on administration of Palo Alto Networks firewalls (PAN-OS) and Juniper core switching infrastructure (Junos OS) in an enterprise environment
  • In-depth technical mastery of BGP routing (including BGP Anycast configurations and route-withdrawal failover scripts), OSPF, and IPsec VPN tunneling
  • Proven working knowledge of federal security compliance standards including FISMA, NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) SP 800-53 Rev. 5, and CISA Zero Trust guidelines
  • Must be US citizen with current/active Secret clearance

Highly Desired:

  • Professional security certifications: ISC2 CISSP, ISSAP, Cisco CCIE Security, CCDE, CCAr, or ISC2 CCSP
  • Active CCNA or advanced Palo Alto or Juniper-equivalent certifications
  • Experience scripting in Python or Bash and building custom Ansible playbooks for network configuration management
  • Experience with secure transit gateways and VPC routes in AWS or Azure environments
