This is a critical role for a fast-growing technology company operating internationally, requiring both strategic vision and hands-on execution across privacy, AI governance, and broader regulatory frameworks.
Our client is a remote-first organization building innovative solutions trusted by thousands of organizations worldwide. You will serve as the formal Data Protection Officer while leading day-to-day compliance workstreams including AI governance, cybersecurity regulation, operational resilience, export controls, and sanctions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the organization's Data Protection Officer and primary contact for supervisory authorities (including CNIL) and data subjects
- Design and operate the privacy program, including ROPAs, DPIAs, privacy by design, retention policies, data-subject rights management, breach assessment, and international data transfers
- Lead design and operational implementation of compliance controls across AI governance, NIS2, operational resilience, export controls, and economic sanctions
- Maintain a proportionate compliance framework including policies, risk mapping, monitoring plans, internal controls, and clear reporting mechanisms
- Partner with Security teams to translate regulatory requirements into practical, business-enabling policies and controls
- Collaborate with Security, Product, and Engineering to embed privacy, AI, and regulatory requirements into product development, vendor management, and customer assurance processes
- Monitor regulatory developments across the EU, UK, US, and other relevant markets, providing clear recommendations to executive leadership
- Support enterprise sales and procurement by responding to privacy, AI governance, and compliance questionnaires
- Leverage AI tools and methodologies to boost productivity and build AI capabilities into internal workflows
What We're Looking For
- 7 to 10 years' experience as a DPO, data privacy lead, or compliance officer, ideally in a fast-growing technology or SaaS environment
- Demonstrable expert knowledge of data protection law and practice; recognized DPO certification or IAPP qualification (such as CIPP/E) strongly preferred
- Experience with company-wide implementation of the EU AI Act
- Deep, hands-on command of GDPR and UK GDPR, including ROPAs, DPIAs, breach management, data-subject rights, and international transfers
- Demonstrable ownership of at least two adjacent regulatory programs such as AI governance, cybersecurity regulation, operational resilience, export controls, or economic sanctions
- Ability to lead unfamiliar workstreams with sound judgment and appropriate specialist support
- Skill in translating complex legal and regulatory requirements into proportionate operational controls
- Strong relationship-building abilities with technical, commercial, and executive stakeholders
- Comfort working in a remote, async-first environment
- Autonomy, ownership mindset, and team spirit
- Strong interest in AI and its applications in privacy and compliance functions
- Comfort working with AI-powered tools (LLMs, automation, copilots) to improve workflows and productivity
- Bonus: Experience in cybersecurity, threat intelligence, or technical B2B SaaS; fluency in English and French
