About This Opportunity
We are representing a specialized IT consultancy based in Munich that builds mission-critical systems for clients across insurance, logistics, and ERP domains. Our client takes full ownership of projects—from business analysis and UX through architecture, implementation, and ongoing production support.
They work with lean, interdisciplinary teams where developers understand not just their code, but the entire business problem they're solving. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who can shape technical decisions, mentor peers, and take features from concept through production.
Responsibilities
- Develop business-critical web and backend applications that clients depend on daily for core operations
- Own features end-to-end: collaborate with business analysts and architects on requirements and design, implement solutions, write automated tests, and support production deployments
- Work closely with business analysis, UX/UI, and architecture teams—challenge requirements early and contribute your technical perspective before implementation begins
- Ensure long-term system quality through automated testing, code reviews, clean interfaces, and maintainable code—quality is built in, not added later
- Actively shape architectural decisions, development standards, CI/CD processes, and team engineering practices
- Contribute to internal initiatives advancing engineering practices, including current work in agentic engineering approaches
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience developing or modernizing complex applications; comfortable with both greenfield projects and legacy system evolution
- Strong ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, design sensible components and interfaces, and assess the impact of architectural decisions
- Solid expertise in Java and/or Kotlin, TypeScript, and modern frameworks such as Spring Boot and Angular
- Familiarity with diverse architectural patterns—modular monoliths, microservices, event-driven systems—and the judgment to choose appropriate approaches for specific problems
- Ability to evaluate system quality, identify technical risks, and prioritize concrete improvements
- Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (Azure, GCP, AWS, or OpenShift) and selecting suitable services based on functional and technical requirements
- Knowledge of security best practices, automated testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and fundamentals of observability and production stability
- Capability to guide other developers in implementation without micromanaging every decision
- Clear communication skills with both technical team members and business stakeholders, including willingness to address difficult technical topics directly
- German language proficiency required for client collaboration; position based in Munich
