About This Opportunity
We are representing a well-funded technology company in the DACH region that has built a leading platform serving institutional real estate organizations. Our client works with major asset managers, housing associations, and financial institutions, and is now scaling their engineering capabilities to deliver AI-powered analytics solutions for the commercial real estate sector.
As Head of Engineering, you will lead and expand a current team of approximately 10 engineers. You will drive ambitious delivery goals—balancing continuous improvements for existing customers with new prototypes and innovations that extend the business model. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will shape product strategy alongside executive leadership, product, and data teams, while building technical architecture that scales and enables AI integration.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow an engineering team of ~10 people, fostering a can-do mentality and continuous improvement culture
- Drive delivery velocity and shipping speed while maintaining high quality standards
- Collaborate with C-level executives, product, data, and customer teams to develop product strategy and find technically sound solutions
- Build and evolve technical architecture to support scaling, AI component integration, and data pipelines
- Make strategic decisions about tech stack evolution, experimentation with new technologies, and technical debt management
- Support sales and customer success teams in winning new clients through technical expertise
- Develop and ship agentic AI features that expand platform capabilities
- Recruit and onboard exceptional local engineering talent
- Understand what drives each team member and help elevate their performance to the next level
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering leadership and architecture
- Proven track record scaling engineering teams while maintaining high shipping velocity, ideally in a fast-paced, non-corporate environment
- Strong expertise with modern tech stacks: TypeScript (full stack), React, NestJS, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS services
- Passion for growing teams, supporting their development, and setting ambitious goals
- Systems thinking approach and first-principles problem-solving methodology
- Ability to enable teams rather than coding everything yourself
- Native or C1-level German proficiency and fluent English required
- Comfort with ambiguity and building in a dynamic, evolving environment
