About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential educational technology organization based in Germany. They are building innovative digital learning platforms and seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer / ML Engineer to join their AI and learning design division. This is a remote position within Germany with flexible working arrangements.

We are looking for a seasoned software engineer with strong backend and infrastructure expertise who can pragmatically integrate machine learning capabilities into production education platforms. This role requires hands-on project experience rather than purely academic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical development and architecture decisions for the learning platform in collaboration with the Product Owner
• Take ownership of the technical build-out and expansion of the platform infrastructure
• Collaborate with colleagues to successfully implement new platform features and capabilities
• Translate product enhancement requests into robust technical implementations
• Work professionally with IT operations teams and all stakeholders necessary for software deployment
• Assume responsibility for building and evolving the technology stack

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience with multiple production applications or platforms
• Strong Python expertise with solid backend development experience using frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Django, FastAPI, or comparable technologies
• Demonstrated experience with cloud infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, AWS, or Azure
• Proven track record implementing ML, NLP, or data-driven applications including classification, RAG systems, embeddings, pipelines, or model integration
• Very good German and English language skills for effective team communication

Highly Desirable:

• Experience with LLM-based product features, prompting strategies, retrieval systems, or multi-stage AI workflows
• Software development experience from before the current GenAI era, demonstrating understanding of maintainability, architecture, and production readiness
• Background in complex domains such as education, didactics, knowledge management, healthcare, data platforms, or regulated environments
• Experience in technical leadership, mentoring, architectural decision-making, or close collaboration with Product Owners and stakeholders
