About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential healthcare payor organization seeking a Lead Engineer, Big Data - Databricks to join their Azure-based analytics practice. This fully remote role focuses on large-scale data solutions supporting Medicare and Medicaid operations, with emphasis on AI-first development, machine learning integration, and business intelligence.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll drive end-to-end ownership of enterprise data architecture while mentoring team members and partnering with business leaders to deliver data-driven solutions that improve member health outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead Azure data platform architecture across Databricks, Synapse, Data Factory, and Data Lake environments
- Champion AI-first development practices, implementing GitHub Copilot workflows and Azure Machine Learning solutions for predictive healthcare analytics
- Design and implement BI solutions using Power BI and Tableau integrated with the Azure data ecosystem
- Build reusable data quality frameworks and automated validation pipelines using Azure DevOps
- Lead integration initiatives connecting Azure platforms with low-code systems including Pega, Salesforce, and Sitecore
- Design analytical data models supporting self-service BI for clinical, financial, and operational stakeholders
- Implement batch and real-time data pipelines for claims processing, quality metrics, and population health analytics
- Convert business requirements into technical architecture for healthcare analytics use cases
- Partner with business leaders to identify high-value data opportunities and prioritize initiatives
- Ensure HIPAA compliance and healthcare data governance standards across all solutions
- Mentor team members on Azure technologies and Forward Deployed Engineer principles
- Support project execution using Agile methodologies
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 6+ years of data management experience on cloud platforms
- Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, statistics, business, healthcare, engineering, or related field
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data services: Databricks, Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake Storage, Azure Machine Learning
- Proven track record implementing AI-assisted development and machine learning solutions
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, Scala, and SQL with quality assurance automation experience
- Experience with real-time streaming architectures such as Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or Spark Streaming
- Experience integrating data platforms with low-code systems like Pega or Salesforce
- Healthcare payor industry experience with Medicare/Medicaid claims, quality metrics (HEDIS, Stars), and regulatory reporting
- Understanding of HIPAA requirements and healthcare data governance frameworks
- Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM templates)
- Ability to mentor and develop team members with Forward Deployed Engineer mindset
- Strong business outcome orientation with critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally in matrixed healthcare environments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to partner with executive stakeholders
- Experience with Microsoft O365, Power BI, and Azure DevOps
Preferred:
- Azure Data Engineer certification
- Deep healthcare payor data experience including claims, eligibility, quality metrics, and regulatory reporting
