Lead Engineer (m/w/d) – B2B-SaaS & Industrieplattform

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential B2B SaaS organization in Leipzig that is building an industrial procurement platform. As Lead Engineer, you will take technical ownership of core platform components and provide hands-on technical leadership to the engineering team.

You will drive platform evolution from concept through implementation, code review, and stable operations. Your work spans backend development (.NET, Python) and frontend work (React), with architectural guidance for selected areas. You will lead the development team technically, supporting prioritization, solution design, pair programming, and code quality standards.

Working closely with leadership, you will assess technical roadmap, effort, and risks realistically. You will establish and improve development processes including code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and documentation to ensure the team works efficiently and reliably.

A key aspect of this role is deploying AI tools in the development process (code generation, testing, refactoring) and integrating them sensibly into workflows. You will also help implement AI functionality in the product itself, such as technical data analysis, workflow automation, and intelligent user support features.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating with offshore and nearshore teams, ensuring clear interfaces and handoffs, and contributing to internal IT topics like developer tooling, access rights, and basic security measures.

What We're Looking For

• Several years of experience developing customer-facing software, ideally in B2B SaaS or platform environments—not embedded or project software without ongoing product operations
• You have accompanied at least one product from early development through go-live into ongoing operations and active further development
• Familiarity with B2B environments from direct experience working with enterprise customers, ideally in industrial contexts (manufacturing, mechanical engineering, automotive)
• Strong hands-on coding skills and confidence in one or more of the following: Backend (.NET and/or Python), Frontend (React)
• Experience in technical leadership of other developers (as Lead Engineer, Senior with mentoring responsibility, or project lead), taking ownership of quality and technical decisions
• Proven experience deploying AI in software projects—either in the product (LLMs or other AI components) or in the development process (code assistants, automated tests, analysis tools)—with the ability to assess where AI delivers real value
• Experience with machine learning frameworks or building ML pipelines is a plus but not required
• Solid foundation in backend architectures and cloud environments, thinking in terms of stability, maintainability, and operations when making decisions
• Structured work approach, making decisions transparently and explaining technical matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Willingness to work in Leipzig (hybrid work possible) and provide technical leadership to a small, focused engineering team
• Excellent German and good English, written and spoken
