About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential health technology organization in their search for a Staff Engineer to join their internal AI and automation team. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on building production-grade AI infrastructure and internal tools that power operations across the organization.

You will architect and operate systems that connect large language models with company data, tools, and workflows. This role requires strong technical judgment, the ability to work independently through ambiguous problems, and a track record of building internal platforms that deliver measurable impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build production AI tools and shared platform capabilities used across the organization
  • Lead technical architecture for complex AI integrations including MCP-based tool use, agentic workflows, model gateways, and workflow automation
  • Take ambiguous business problems from discovery through implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation
  • Develop infrastructure connecting approved models with internal systems, data, APIs, and workflows
  • Own reliability, scalability, observability, and security of production AI systems including model routing, evaluation, and access control
  • Build internal experiences spanning backend services, infrastructure, and user interfaces as needed
  • Evaluate emerging AI models and frameworks through experimentation and provide clear adoption recommendations
  • Shape technical roadmap by identifying platform opportunities and connecting engineering work to business outcomes
  • Act as technical mentor through code reviews, pairing, documentation, and engineering discussions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated impact as a technical leader on complex production systems
  • Hands-on experience building and operating AI-enabled applications in production
  • Strong familiarity with MCP or comparable tool-use protocols, agents, context management, and LLM integrations
  • Track record building internal tools or platforms adopted by real users with measurable operational impact
  • Deep backend engineering expertise in Ruby, Python, or comparable languages
  • Strong systems design fundamentals including APIs, integrations, distributed systems, authentication, and authorization
  • Practical cloud and DevOps experience operating reliable systems in AWS or similar environments
  • Experience with CI/CD, containers, serverless infrastructure, observability, and infrastructure as code
  • Ability to work independently through ambiguity and drive substantial initiatives to completion
  • Staff-level communication and influence, with ability to challenge assumptions constructively and connect technical work to business outcomes

Bonus experience:

  • React, TypeScript, or GraphQL for full-stack contributions
  • Workflow orchestration platforms such as n8n or Temporal
  • LLM evaluation and observability platforms like Langfuse
  • GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Cloudflare Workers, or similar tooling
  • Healthcare or regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2)

Technical environment: Ruby, React, TypeScript, Python, GraphQL, SQL, multiple LLM providers, AWS Bedrock, MCP, Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, Cloudflare, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Langfuse, Sentry, Coralogix
