Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) – Agent SDK

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI technology client in their search for a Senior Backend Engineer to own and evolve their Agent SDK. This is a foundational role where you will build and maintain the Kotlin runtime layer that enables AI agents to operate reliably across multiple product surfaces and markets.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Design and maintain the SDK as an internal product, shaping runtime architecture and client-facing contracts that consuming teams depend on
• Build the identity and authentication layer that allows customer-facing agents to operate with real user credentials
• Implement telemetry, error reporting, inference integration, and anonymization as default SDK behaviors to ensure every agent launches with full observability
• Create comprehensive test infrastructure including architecture tests and integration pathways to evaluation systems before model changes ship
• Own ecosystem compatibility by managing framework version upgrades, format compatibility, and shared resource limits across all SDK consumers
• Drive the SDK roadmap to ensure the cost and complexity of deploying additional agents decreases over time

What We're Looking For

Our talent team is seeking candidates with:

• Several years of production backend engineering experience on the JVM using Kotlin, Java, Scala, or similar languages (our client uses Kotlin)
• Proven experience designing APIs or SDKs that other engineering teams build against—platform or internal product work where the contract is the deliverable
• Strong track record building and maintaining integrations while ensuring stability through external system changes
• Deep commitment to testing and observability as core engineering practices, not afterthoughts
• Interest in AI agent systems, particularly the orchestration, evaluation, and infrastructure layers that support them
