Ryder System, Inc. seeks a Warehousing Lead Solutions Design Engineer in the United States to architect transformative supply chain and dedicated transportation solutions for enterprise customers. In this full-time role, you'll combine deep technical expertise in warehousing and transportation network design with strategic business acumen to win new business, mentor engineering teams, and drive operational excellence.

The Opportunity

This position is central to Ryder's pursuit teams, where you'll take ownership of complex logistics projects from initial concept through successful customer transition. You'll work across multiple design disciplines to understand customer pain points, engineer financially sound solutions, and communicate compelling value propositions that win business. This role offers the chance to influence high-impact decisions, lead smaller engineering teams, and establish industry best practices that shape how customers optimize their supply chains.

Core Duties

  • Analyze customer requests for proposals, identify business objectives, and develop strategic hypotheses for transportation and warehousing network solutions that align with customer goals and Ryder's operational capabilities.
  • Conduct data validation, profiling, and baseline analysis to build predictive models and scenario planning that inform logistics network design and optimization.
  • Calculate labor, equipment, and facility requirements based on transportation and warehousing assumptions; develop process flows and operational concepts; coordinate with pricing teams on cost and financial models.
  • Design, redesign, and optimize complex logistics networks using advanced analytical tools and methodologies that balance efficiency, cost, and sustainability.
  • Lead technical review meetings with customers and cross-functional bid response teams to validate designs and align stakeholder expectations.
  • Support implementation, validating deployed processes to ensure they match design assumptions and requirements.
  • Mentor other Solutions Design Engineers and develop improved tools and methodologies that raise team performance and align with industry standards.

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum six years of professional experience in the transportation industry (truckload, less-than-truckload, intermodal, or related services).
  • Minimum six years of professional experience in warehousing operations, manufacturing, or industrial engineering roles.
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint); intermediate to advanced expertise with Tableau or similar visualization platforms.
  • Extensive knowledge of transportation networks, dedicated services, managed transportation, and all equipment types (dry vans, temperature-controlled, flatbeds, specialized units).
  • Demonstrated expertise with transportation design tools (JDA, Appian), network optimization software (Llamasoft), and transportation management systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of warehouse operations, data analytics, industrial engineering, and warehouse types; working knowledge of material handling solutions and automation technologies (powered industrial trucks, racking systems, conveyor and sortation equipment, AS/RS).
  • Proficiency with warehouse design and modeling tools including CAD, slotting software, simulation applications, warehouse management systems (Manhattan Scale), and labor management systems.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both internal stakeholders and customer audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, think creatively, and lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Travel of 10–15% required.
