Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential software development organization seeking a Staff Software Developer to join their core libraries team in London. In this role, you will:
- Design and maintain foundational libraries for core programming language primitives used by hundreds of thousands of developers worldwide
- Develop deep expertise in specific domains of computer science and software engineering
- Serve on the design committee that shapes critical API decisions
- Contribute to the creation of standard tooling, specifications, and language features
- Research and implement solutions to complex technical challenges, from Unicode standards to timezone handling and JIT optimization
What We're Looking For
Our client is seeking a senior-level engineer with:
- Strong JVM development experience, including deep familiarity with Java standard library implementation details
- Demonstrated understanding of complex technical domains
- Proven ability to write comprehensive design documents with well-reasoned technical trade-offs
- Experience in performance engineering or API design
- Comfort working with low-level technical specifications and standards
- An analytical mindset and willingness to iterate on documentation and design
