Software Development Manager

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential gaming technology organization seeking a Software Development Manager to lead high-impact engineering teams in Bristol. This role centers on people leadership and operational excellence, requiring you to manage high-performing teams with a solid understanding of development tools and practices.

In this position, you will:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers across career levels from graduate to staff engineer, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
• Define team member development and career path opportunities, mentoring engineers to achieve their professional goals
• Collaborate with groups and teams across different time zones, with some travel required throughout the year
• Monitor and review team members' performance and deliver regular performance appraisals
• Manage team capacity planning, hiring, onboarding, and ensure effective succession planning
• Recognize challenges, help remove obstacles, and clarify tasks in situations that are not well defined

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3–5+ years of experience managing software development teams with proven success in people management and mentorship
• Effective leadership of multiple Agile teams in software engineering domains
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including presenting to senior leadership, product managers, software engineers, and project managers
• Significant experience with software engineering practices, software automation, and testing systems (for example, Jenkins)
• Sufficient development tools experience to provide guidance in high-level goal-setting discussions
• A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and driving reductions in technical debt

Preferred qualifications:

• Solid grasp of Confluence, JIRA (or similar project management tools) and support ticket management frontends
• Prior experience with console or PC game development
• Development and debugging tools experience on Windows and/or Linux
• Experience in low-level languages such as Rust and C++
• Knowledge of the Clang for LLVM open-source project or GNU GCC toolchains
