What This Role Involves

As Staff Platform Engineer, you'll serve as a technical leader within Calendly's infrastructure organization, reporting directly to our Head of Infrastructure. Your mission is to accelerate how our engineering teams build, deploy, and operate services across our cloud environment. You'll combine deep hands-on expertise with strategic thinking to evolve our infrastructure into a self-service platform that empowers developers and reduces operational friction.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop infrastructure tooling and platforms that extend Calendly's operational capabilities
  • Establish best practices and architectural patterns for cloud-native development, guiding teams across the organization
  • Architect applications using Kubernetes controllers, operators, and distributed systems patterns
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in Go development for infrastructure APIs, orchestration layers, and platform components
  • Build and maintain highly available production systems designed for reliability and observability
  • Mentor engineering teams and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
  • Partner with product development teams to understand requirements and co-design solutions that serve their needs
  • Participate in on-call rotations to ensure business-critical systems receive prompt, effective responses

Who We're Looking For

  • 10+ years building and operating cloud infrastructure or backend systems at scale
  • 4+ years of experience leading technical initiatives from conception through successful delivery
  • Expert-level proficiency in Go, particularly for building infrastructure APIs and cloud orchestration tools
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes architecture and cloud-native design patterns, including operators and controllers
  • Proven track record designing and running production applications built for high availability
  • Strong foundation in Linux operating systems and systems engineering principles
  • Hands-on experience with GCP, distributed systems architecture, and site reliability practices
  • Demonstrated skill with infrastructure observability and tuning, particularly Datadog
  • Experience with Temporal workflow orchestration (a plus)
  • Genuine interest in teaching others and elevating team capabilities through knowledge transfer
  • Comfortable working directly with internal stakeholders to understand needs and co-develop solutions
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the United States; Calendly does not provide immigration sponsorship
