Staff Engineer, AI Productivity

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing data and marketing technology company in their search for a Staff Engineer, AI Productivity. Our client is building the future of how engineering teams leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building infrastructure, tooling, and documentation that makes AI agents dramatically more effective across their codebase. You'll own the AI-assisted development experience end-to-end—from setting up cloud development environments where agents can run autonomously, to building MCP integrations that give agents access to internal systems, to creating the documentation and context that helps agents understand how software gets built.

You'll have the technical acumen to do heavy lifting yourself and the leadership skills to drive cross-team initiatives that raise the bar everywhere.

Responsibilities

• Own the agentic development environment: Ensure agents can operate in independent cloud-based development environments, execute full test suites, and examine build results visually
• Build tooling integrations: Create MCP server integrations that connect agents to systems needed to build and debug software, such as CI/CD platforms, communication tools, monitoring systems, and version control
• Manage documentation and context: Own repository-wide context files and work with teams to ensure the library of agent guidance and skills continually pushes the bar. Ensure conventions and package structures are exposed in ways agents can effectively use
• Enable the engineering organization: Work with engineers to understand where agents are struggling and address root causes through better documentation, tooling access, and process improvements. Develop tooling for non-engineers to make simple visual updates to applications
• Serve as a "PM" for internal AI agents: Stay abreast of state-of-the-art AI productivity trends in the industry and drive those improvements across the organization

What We're Looking For

Must Have:

• Strong software engineering fundamentals—ability to dive into complex backend code and understand it quickly
• Deep hands-on experience with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Devin, or similar)
• Experience writing effective agent documentation, custom instructions, or context files that meaningfully improved agent output
• Track record of building developer tools or infrastructure that other engineers actually use
• Comfortable working across the stack: CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, internal tooling, and application code

Nice to Have:

• Experience building or contributing to MCP servers or similar agent-tooling integrations
• Background in developer productivity, platform engineering, or developer experience roles
• Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript monorepos, Go, and GraphQL
• Experience setting up sandboxed or containerized development environments at scale

Pay

Our client has indicated a salary range of $180,000 - $400,000 USD per year for this position, location-independent. The role also includes meaningful equity compensation. Specific compensation details through Get A Job.ai will be discussed during the screening process.
