Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join their growing team in Cardiff. In this role, you'll collaborate across disciplines within cross-functional squads, working alongside product managers, designers, data analysts, and other engineers to build and support critical customer-facing features.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

• Writing application code in Go to deliver scalable backend solutions
• Working with distributed systems technologies including Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, and Docker
• Building resilient software that handles high-volume transaction processing
• Collaborating on system design and architecture decisions
• Testing hypotheses and making data-informed decisions to improve customer outcomes
• Contributing to infrastructure running on AWS and physical datacenter environments
• Participating in knowledge-sharing sessions across engineering teams

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Strong experience working on the backend of technology products
• Proficiency with strongly-typed languages such as Go, Java, C, or Scala
• A product mindset with focus on customer outcomes and data-driven decision making
• Comfort working with distributed systems and building resilient software
• Experience collaborating in teams that navigate ambiguity
• Staff-level engineering maturity (equivalent to L60 in standard progression frameworks)

Our client values diverse engineering backgrounds and does not require formal qualifications or degrees. Technical expertise with their core stack (Cassandra, Kafka, Envoy Proxy, Kubernetes, AWS, React) is beneficial but willingness to learn is equally important.

Pay
