Sr. Software Engineer, Ruby on Rails

About the Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization in their search for a Senior Software Engineer, Ruby on Rails. Our client builds mission-critical software that supports therapy providers and educators serving vulnerable populations across the United States.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll shape architecture, mentor teammates, and drive projects from concept to delivery. You'll work with modern tools including AI-assisted development workflows, while maintaining the rigor and care required in regulated healthcare environments.

Responsibilities

• Shape technical direction within your squad, contributing to architecture decisions and unblocking teammates while staying hands-on in Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React
• Write clean, maintainable code and elevate team quality through thoughtful code review and pair programming
• Design and optimize back-end systems, APIs, and data flows with strong focus on performance and reliability
• Build modern, responsive front-end experiences using React, TypeScript, and CSS with maintainable architecture
• Work with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL), writing efficient SQL and shaping data models that support business growth
• Lead projects end-to-end, balancing hands-on development with guiding others, surfacing risks early and communicating trade-offs clearly
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and QA to translate business needs into sound technical solutions
• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) effectively and help the team adopt best practices
• Identify and prototype opportunities to apply LLMs and automation to engineering workflows, with appropriate guardrails for healthcare data and regulated billing

What We're Looking For

• 7-10+ years of full-stack development experience, with Ruby on Rails as a core strength
• 5+ years of React experience preferred
• Proven track record leading projects end-to-end, from breaking down complex problems to shipping features that drive impact
• Passion for mentoring engineers through pair programming, architectural guidance, and technical leadership
• Daily, hands-on fluency with AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot), with sharp judgment about when AI accelerates work and where human review is essential
• Experience or strong demonstrated interest in building with LLM APIs, including prompt design, evaluation, and safety considerations for sensitive data
• Strong project management skills: comfortable with planning, estimation, and scoping
• Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment, making sound decisions independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels
• Comfortable working in a distributed, hybrid environment
• Capable of creating and executing technical direction for yourself and others with minimal oversight

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai will be based on the client's range of $120,000–$180,000 USD, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
