Lead Data Platform Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is seeking a Lead Data Platform Engineer to join their growing team. Our client has helped over 1 million people navigate complex financial challenges, and they need an experienced technical leader to drive the architecture and reliability of their production data platform.

This role owns the technical direction for data movement across systems of record, ETL/reverse-ETL pipelines, third-party integrations, and production datastores. You'll turn ambiguous requirements into actionable plans, set engineering standards, and ensure data is correct, complete, and delivered on time. This is a leadership position where you'll increasingly deliver through others while maintaining hands-on technical involvement.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and technical roadmap for data pipelines, integrations, and datastores, making critical tradeoff decisions
• Translate broad organizational goals into concrete work the team can execute
• Establish and enforce standards for infrastructure-as-code, schema contracts, observability, testing, on-call practices, and incident response
• Guide replication pipelines that sync CRM data into Aurora and Postgres databases through tools like Informatica and Fivetran
• Set technical direction for production Postgres databases, covering query performance, indexing, access control, and migration review
• Oversee outbound jobs delivering data to third-party partners and inbound pipelines processing partner files, ensuring validation, auditability, and reprocessing capabilities
• Partner with engineering management on planning, scoping, team growth, and represent Data Engineering in cross-functional technical decisions
• Mentor engineers at all levels and drive excellence through code review
• Lead production incidents as senior technical voice and drive systemic fixes to prevent recurrence

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years building and operating production data systems, with experience owning technical direction for a team or major initiative
• Proven ability to create clarity from ambiguity and set direction others can execute
• Deep SQL expertise including query optimization, indexing, schema design, and operating databases under production load
• Strong command of ETL/ELT tooling such as Fivetran, Informatica, or Airbyte with judgment to choose appropriate approaches
• Working knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure data services
• Comfort writing and reviewing Ruby on Rails or comparable language
• Ability to define and defend schema contracts across systems and teams
• Calm, decisive leadership through production data incidents with discipline for follow-through
• Clear, direct communication skills and ability to align multiple teams around technical direction
• Experience with and willingness to work with agentic AI coding tools

Pay

Base salary range: $170,000–$205,000 USD annually. This role is also eligible for additional incentives including an annual bonus.
