About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential rail technology organization seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead their cloud-native development team. This is a strategic leadership role combining people management, technical direction, and platform ownership for modern Azure-based solutions and on-premise systems.

You'll shape the technical roadmap for a scalable, secure platform while guiding the adoption of AI-driven capabilities and intelligent automation across products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a professional engineering team, promoting excellence through established and emerging methodologies
  • Provide technical direction for cloud and on-premise solutions, with emphasis on containerised environments and Kubernetes
  • Ensure best-in-class architecture, security, compliance, and system resilience across all platform components
  • Guide effective implementation of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure management, and DevOps practices
  • Balance new feature delivery with platform stability, scalability, and long-term maintainability
  • Contribute to strategic platform direction through engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and patterns to keep the platform competitive and leading-edge
  • Lead the evolution of AI and ML capabilities, ensuring responsible and secure adoption
  • Identify AI opportunities to enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and developer productivity

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience managing software engineering teams with a track record of delivering engineering excellence
  • Strong technical background in cloud-native development, particularly with Azure platforms
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes and containerised environments
  • Expertise in C# and.NET technologies
  • Deep understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code
  • Experience balancing feature development velocity with platform stability and technical debt management
  • Knowledge of AI and ML integration in enterprise platforms
  • Strategic thinking with ability to contribute to technical roadmap and architecture decisions
  • Experience in the rail sector or similar regulated industries is beneficial
