Software Engineer, Backend

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential infrastructure technology company seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join their engineering team. Our client is a leader in web development platforms, trusted by major enterprises and millions of developers worldwide.

This backend-focused role offers the opportunity to design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance systems using modern JavaScript/TypeScript technologies, cloud-native databases, and AWS infrastructure. You'll work on critical systems for user, group, and membership management while ensuring enterprise-grade security and reliability.

The position is available in the USA, with hybrid options in San Francisco, New York, London, or Berlin (Monday/Tuesday/Friday in-office), or fully remote for those outside commuting distance of these locations.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver secure, reliable, and scalable backend services that meet enterprise standards
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on large-scale projects with dependencies across multiple teams
• Maintain and operate services at high scale, participating in scheduled on-call rotations
• Implement identity synchronization and lifecycle management solutions using SCIM and relevant standards
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Kubernetes) to deliver high-availability applications
• Build and maintain enterprise software using TypeScript, REST APIs, and JSON
• Work with both SQL and NoSQL cloud-native databases in production environments

What We're Looking For

• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, React, and Node.js
• Strong knowledge of security architecture including LDAP, Active Directory, SAML, SSO, OAuth2, and OpenID Connect
• Understanding of web protocols such as XML, SOAP, JSON, and REST
• Familiarity with access control models including RBAC, ABAC, and ReBAC
• Experience with SQL databases
• Practical experience developing and improving applications written in Node.js
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and communication skills when collaborating with diverse teams
• Experience with AWS cloud services is highly valued
