They are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their technical team in Darmstadt, Germany. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge experimental systems and large-scale facility projects in a rapidly scaling environment.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership for complex mechanical design efforts, guide engineering teams, and ensure robust solutions from concept through commissioning. You'll work at the intersection of advanced scientific requirements and practical engineering execution.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of complex systems including integration structures, vacuum chambers, diagnostics mounts, and facility equipment
• Take technical ownership of mechanical work packages from concept through detailed design, build, integration, testing, and commissioning
• Define and manage mechanical requirements and interfaces across multidisciplinary teams including controls, electrical, safety, systems engineering, and external suppliers
• Review and guide engineering analysis covering structural loading, thermal behavior, vibration, stability, tolerances, and manufacturability
• Lead technical design reviews and decision-making processes, ensuring clear assessment of risks, design maturity, and integration readiness
• Mentor mechanical engineers, helping them solve complex design challenges and improve documentation quality

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
• 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, development, and integration of complex systems
• Strong 3D CAD capability, ideally Autodesk Inventor
• Proven ability to take technical ownership of mechanical subsystems or work packages
• Demonstrated experience working across multidisciplinary interfaces including electrical, controls, systems, safety, facilities, and suppliers
• Ability to guide and support other mechanical engineers through complex technical challenges
• Fluency in English; German language skills are a plus
