Lead Learning & Development Partner

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential deep-tech organization pioneering advanced energy solutions. This is a unique opportunity to join as the first dedicated Learning & Development Partner and build the entire L&D function from the ground up. You'll work in a fast-scaling, highly technical environment where your work will directly shape how the organization develops its people, captures critical knowledge, and prepares for growth.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role based in Darmstadt, Germany, with flexibility for hybrid work. You'll partner closely with senior leaders, functional experts, and People team members to design learning infrastructure, manager development programs, skill frameworks, succession planning, and knowledge management systems that serve both scientific depth and organizational readiness.

Responsibilities

• Build and own the L&D function from diagnosis through design, delivery, and continuous improvement of learning programs
• Design and deliver manager development frameworks, content, cohorts, and ongoing support for leaders at all levels
• Create and maintain skill maps identifying critical competencies per function and level, current capabilities, and development gaps
• Design learning paths that address skill gaps, working with subject matter experts to translate technical and scientific knowledge into accessible learning experiences
• Own succession planning for critical roles, including successor pipelines, readiness assessments, and development plans in partnership with People Business Partners
• Build learning infrastructure, including platform selection, implementation, and content management to keep resources findable and current
• Lead the capability track of onboarding so new hires understand how the organization operates within their first 30 days
• Develop knowledge management practices to capture and retain technical and scientific expertise
• Use feedback, data, and observation to evaluate learning effectiveness and adjust programs accordingly
• Partner with People Business Partners, People Operations, and Strategic People Projects Partner on integrated talent initiatives
• Provide recommendations and a clear point of view on L&D priorities, sequencing, and program design

What We're Looking For

• Several years of experience in Learning & Development, organizational development, leadership development, instructional design, or closely related fields
• Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design, with proven ability to create practical, engaging learning experiences
• Experience designing and delivering manager and leadership development programs
• Experience building skill frameworks or competency models and using skills data to inform development and workforce planning
• Experience with succession planning, including building successor pipelines and readiness development plans
• Experience building or improving learning infrastructure, ideally including LMS selection, implementation, or management
• Experience with knowledge management, documentation practices, and expertise transfer
• Strong communication skills with ability to translate complex technical information into accessible learning formats
• Highly independent, hands-on approach with comfort building from scratch and making decisions with imperfect information
• Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills across all organizational levels
• Data-informed and iterative mindset, using feedback and evidence to drive improvement
• Experience working in deep tech, scientific, engineering, or highly technical environments is strongly preferred
• Professional fluency in English; German language skills are a plus
