About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential gaming company seeking a Senior Marketing Strategist, Growth & Community to build their marketing function from the ground up. This is a foundational role for an individual contributor who will create the strategy, systems, and brand presence that establishes our client as a recognized name in interactive entertainment.

Working directly with leadership, you'll define how this organization shows up to the world—establishing brand positioning, building owned player communities, developing content strategy, and creating repeatable launch playbooks. You'll partner across creative, product, and business development teams to strengthen both player engagement and commercial partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Build the marketing function. Own the creation of marketing strategy and operating model from scratch, establishing brand positioning, go-to-market approach, and scalable systems.
• Grow an owned player audience. Develop community strategy, launch and grow player spaces like Discord, and establish repeatable approaches for attracting and retaining players across multiple launches.
• Lead brand and content strategy. Define how the organization presents itself across all public touchpoints—messaging, website, social presence, and build-in-public content that serves both players and partners.
• Own game launch marketing. Create launch playbooks that coordinate community, content, creative, and partnership marketing into campaigns that maximize awareness and long-term retention.
• Measure and scale. Establish metrics for audience growth, community health, launch performance, and brand awareness, using data to refine strategy and demonstrate marketing impact.

• 0 → 1 builder. You've built something from scratch—a marketing function, brand, community, or go-to-market motion. You're comfortable with ambiguity and making decisions without perfect information.
• Strategic marketing leader. You understand how brand, positioning, content, community, partnerships, and launches create long-term business value, and you can both develop strategy and execute it.
• Community-first mindset. You've built genuine player communities where people return, engage, and become advocates. You understand how community improves both products and launches.
• Exceptional storyteller. You create compelling narratives through social content, launch campaigns, and build-in-public initiatives that earn attention and reinforce brand.
• Launch and go-to-market experience. You've led successful product or game launches involving multiple stakeholders, coordinating teams and creating repeatable processes.
• Collaborative leadership. You work well across disciplines, influencing founders, product managers, designers, and commercial teams without relying on formal authority.

Nice to have: Experience in gaming, entertainment, or consumer products; Discord community building; build-in-public or founder-led content strategies; directing agencies or creative teams; comfort with AI-powered creative tools.

Relevant backgrounds: Early-stage startups where you built marketing from scratch, gaming or entertainment companies with player communities, consumer technology or creator platforms, agencies leading brand strategy, or founder-led companies with integrated marketing.

Pay
