Senior Machine Learning Scientist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI technology organization seeking a Senior Machine Learning Scientist for their London office. Our client operates at the cutting edge of applied machine learning, building production systems that directly impact how businesses interact with their customers.

This is a highly product-focused role where you'll work alongside dedicated ML product engineers to rapidly prototype and ship models that solve real customer problems. The team has successfully productized everything from classic supervised models to cutting-edge clustering algorithms and novel transformer applications.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities where machine learning can create tangible customer value
• Frame product problems as ML challenges and determine appropriate solution approaches
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and research to deeply understand problem domains
• Research and select the right algorithms and tools, balancing pragmatism with innovation
• Perform offline evaluation to validate that proposed algorithms will deliver results
• Collaborate with engineers to transition prototypes into production systems
• Design experiments, measure outcomes, and share learnings to inform iteration
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering stakeholders throughout the development cycle

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3-5 years of applied machine learning experience in production environments
• Broad applied ML knowledge across multiple domains and techniques
• Practical statistics knowledge including experiment design and handling confounding variables
• Intermediate programming skills suitable for ML research and prototyping
• Strong communication abilities across technical and non-technical audiences
• Comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces
• Advanced degree in ML or related field (typically MSc or equivalent)
• Scientific thinking skills and hypothesis-driven approach

Bonus qualifications:

• Demonstrated track record shipping ML products to customers
• PhD or research environment experience
• Deep expertise in applicable ML areas such as NLP, deep learning, Bayesian methods, reinforcement learning, or clustering
• Strong statistics or mathematics background
• Data visualization skills with tools like SQL, matplotlib, or similar
