This role offers the opportunity to become an early specialist in EV engineering with significant scope for career growth, including the potential to help build and lead a local engineering team in the future.
Based in Milton Keynes, this position involves approximately 60% travel, with around three days per week spent on customer sites throughout the UK. You will serve as a trusted technical partner, delivering both remote and on-site support to ensure reliable operation of EV charging solutions.
Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor commissioned EV chargers remotely to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact operations
- Diagnose and troubleshoot charger malfunctions, communication issues, and electrical, electronic, or control-system faults
- Resolve communication problems with local inverters, energy meters, onboard controllers, and customer SCADA systems
- Implement proactive maintenance actions including remote reboots, configuration changes, and firmware updates to maximise fleet availability
- Coordinate and execute commissioning activities for new EV chargers, working with installers, electricians, platform technicians, and other stakeholders
- Integrate EV chargers into customer systems, including local grids, EMS controllers, OCPP backends, and shared-meter arrangements
- Lead on-site troubleshooting for complex technical issues and replace faulty components in compliance with electrical safety regulations
- Identify and document recurring quality issues, providing practical field insights to support continuous product improvement
- Maintain accurate customer, service, and issue records in internal systems
- Build strong expertise in monitoring and diagnostic tools to support proactive maintenance strategies
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on experience in electrotechnical or electrical engineering with strong practical troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Genuine interest in green technology and EV charging infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking and experience using command-line tools to diagnose network issues
- Experience with OCPP and Modbus-TCP communication protocols (highly desirable)
- Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams to diagnose system performance and faults
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or professional statistical-analysis software; Linux knowledge is a strong advantage
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to support non-technical customers in troubleshooting situations
- English proficiency at B2 level or above; additional European languages are advantageous
- Must be based in the United Kingdom with ability to travel extensively across the country, plus occasional international travel for training or troubleshooting
- Existing right to work in the UK is required; visa sponsorship or relocation may be considered for exceptional candidates
