Senior Data Scientist (m/w/d) mit Führungsverantwortung – remote oder Karlsruhe

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential social networking organization seeking a Senior Data Scientist with leadership potential. In this role, you will:

• Perform hands-on data analysis and data science work, analyzing complex datasets and extracting valuable insights through data mining, clustering, forecasting, and recommendation classification
• Ensure data correctness across various systems and establish best practices including code reviews and documentation
• Enable data-driven decision making by analyzing data, preparing results in an understandable format, and deriving concrete strategic measures
• Work closely with product management, community management, and executive leadership as a strategic partner, combining quantitative analyses with qualitative user feedback
• Provide technical and eventual managerial leadership for a small team, fostering colleague development and building out the data science function structurally
• Define long-term data strategy together with executive leadership and establish a genuine data culture throughout the organization

What We're Looking For

• University degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or comparable qualification
• Business acumen: ability to not only analyze data but explain findings and translate them into practical value; you recognize patterns, understand their business implications, and think in product solutions, not just algorithms
• Strong communication skills: you can convey complex relationships understandably to non-technical stakeholders and present confidently, even when challenging existing assumptions with data
• Leadership potential: desire to take on responsibility as a mentor, project lead, or through technical guidance; formal leadership experience is a plus but not required
• Analytical strength with quick comprehension, structured work approach, and enjoyment in analyzing large structured and unstructured datasets
• AI mindset: understanding of AI (e.g., LLMs, copilots) as an integral part of modern work, with routine use of such tools and ideas for productive deployment
• Strong technical skills: proficiency in SQL and Python (including pandas, sklearn), experience with statistical analyses and databases, and Excel/Google Sheets for data visualization
• Solid knowledge of machine learning (forecasting, clustering, classification) and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Language requirements: fluent German (minimum C1 level) and English proficiency
• Nice to have: knowledge of Java and Mixpanel
