(Senior) Accountant (all genders)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization in Berlin that needs an experienced accountant to take ownership of critical finance operations. In this role, you will:

• Independently maintain and manage the general ledger, reviewing automated outgoing invoices within the ERP system (Odoo)
• Lead the preparation of monthly financial closings and contribute to annual financial statements under HGB standards, including timely execution of balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and provisions
• Prepare VAT pre-registrations and maintain ongoing coordination with tax authorities and external tax advisors both domestically and internationally
• Handle weekly payment runs and cash management activities including foreign currency purchases
• Serve as the primary point of contact for technical accounting questions in day-to-day operations, conduct regular booking controls, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams
• Actively shape, optimize, and implement new internal processes and system functionalities to drive digitalization of finance structures

What We're Looking For

• Completed commercial training (e.g., as a tax specialist or in financial accounting) or relevant degree, plus 3–5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in e-commerce environments
• Strong technical knowledge of HGB accounting standards and comfortable working with ERP systems and Excel
• Experience in direct-to-consumer business models and familiarity with cross-border tax topics (e.g., UK, Switzerland, Poland) is advantageous
• Understanding of online retail specifics including payment providers, marketplaces, and shipping cost structures
• Structured, proactive, and meticulous work style combined with analytical thinking
• Strong enthusiasm for automation and digitalization of modern finance processes
• Excellent communication skills to serve as a competent sparring partner for internal stakeholders
• German at C2 level, business-fluent English (C1), and residence in Berlin or surrounding area required
