Senior Data Scientist (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in their search for a Senior Data Scientist to join their Data & AI team in Berlin. Our client is building advanced AI-powered solutions that transform financial workflows, and they need an experienced practitioner who can own end-to-end machine learning initiatives from conception through production deployment.

You'll be responsible for developing and shipping LLM and classical ML systems that power core product capabilities including document understanding, intelligent matching, reconciliation, anomaly detection, and user assistance features. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll work directly with platform and data engineering teams to deliver measurable business impact.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own production LLM and ML pipelines for extraction, classification, anomaly detection, and recommendation systems
• Establish comprehensive evaluation and monitoring frameworks including gold standard datasets, automated testing, robustness checks, SLAs, and cost/latency tracking
• Collaborate with platform and data engineering teams to productionize models, ensuring successful deployment and continuous iteration based on stakeholder adoption and feedback
• Frame ambiguous business problems as tractable data science solutions, validating assumptions and prioritizing the right problems to solve
• Balance model performance with engineering constraints to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions

What We're Looking For

• 5-10+ years of applied machine learning experience with demonstrated ownership of production models and systems
• Hands-on production experience building LLM applications and agents, including tool use/function calling, RAG, structured outputs, and guardrails
• Strong Python proficiency and expertise with ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, XGBoost/LightGBM, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
• Rigorous experimentation and evaluation skills with a track record of validating model performance
• Strategic problem-solving ability: you deeply understand business context before building solutions and rigorously validate assumptions to ensure you're solving the right problems
• End-to-end execution capability: you independently own projects from ideation through production, ensuring solutions are monitored, scalable, and maintainable
• Location: Berlin-based or willing to relocate
