Senior Backend Engineer – Agentic Systems (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology consultancy that builds production-grade AI systems for enterprise clients. Our talent team is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their agentic systems platform in München.

In this role, you will design and maintain the backend infrastructure that powers AI-driven workflows for client deployments. You'll work closely with AI engineers to transform experimental agentic patterns into secure, scalable, and measurable production systems.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable backend services, APIs, asynchronous workflows, queues, databases, and distributed systems using Python, TypeScript, or comparable technologies
• Design orchestration patterns for agentic systems, including tool calling, stateful workflows, routing, retries, human approvals, and context management
• Develop and maintain integrations with enterprise systems and SaaS platforms, including OAuth, webhooks, SDKs, API clients, and data pipelines
• Ensure production reliability through resilient error handling, idempotent design, rate-limit management, fallbacks, audit logs, and incident debugging
• Build evaluation and observability capabilities, including test datasets, trace capture, quality metrics, structured logging, dashboards, and cost and latency monitoring
• Establish shared platform primitives, templates, security standards, and governance patterns that accelerate deployments while protecting customer data

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 4–6 years of experience in backend engineering, platform engineering, distributed systems, or comparable software engineering roles
• Strong hands-on programming skills in Python, TypeScript, or both, with solid understanding of modern software engineering best practices
• Experience designing and operating scalable APIs, asynchronous systems, queues, databases, and distributed services in production environments
• Familiarity with enterprise integrations, including OAuth, webhooks, REST APIs, SDKs, and data ingestion or normalisation pipelines
• Practical experience with LLM or agentic application patterns such as tool calling, orchestration, state management, retrieval, evaluation, or observability
• Fluent English with the ability to communicate technical topics clearly to engineers and client stakeholders; additional local language skills are a plus
