Role Overview
As a Senior / Associate Cost Manager specialising in estimating for data centre developments, you will lead the preparation of comprehensive cost plans, feasibility studies, and capital expenditure forecasts at each project stage. Your expertise will shape investment decisions for Europe's most ambitious digital infrastructure initiatives, partnering with architects, engineers, and clients to deliver exceptional value and financial outcomes. This position combines detailed cost analysis with strategic advisory, establishing you as a trusted partner across the data centre development lifecycle.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and resource schedules for data centre projects from feasibility through design development and tender phases
- Conduct comparative cost analysis and benchmarking exercises to identify efficiency opportunities and value engineering solutions
- Collaborate with design teams, contractors, and clients to clarify project scope, resolve cost questions, and maintain budget alignment
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets, identifying variances and preparing regular cost forecasts and reports
- Build and maintain cost databases and historical project information to strengthen estimating accuracy and methodology
- Support and develop junior cost management professionals, contributing to the evolution of estimating practice standards
Requirements
- Extensive experience in construction cost management, estimating, and cost planning on substantial projects
- Demonstrated success on infrastructure, data centre, or major commercial property programmes
- Strong working knowledge of UK and European cost data, procurement strategies, and construction approaches
- Professional accreditation such as RICS, AACE, or equivalent demonstrable experience in cost management
- Advanced skill with cost planning software and Microsoft Office; exposure to BIM environments valuable
- Strong communication and relationship management abilities, with capability to present complex cost information to varied stakeholders
