Principal Enterprise Architect, Financial Services

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential consulting firm that supports financial services organisations with technology strategy and architecture decisions. We are seeking a freelance Principal Enterprise Architect to lead detailed architecture assessments for our client's engagements.

You will work on eight-week assessments (approximately 16 days per assignment) that examine business systems, data platforms, Microsoft services, cloud infrastructure and delivery frameworks. The role is primarily remote within the UK, with occasional client meetings arranged in advance.

Responsibilities

• Review application inventories, architecture diagrams and existing technology assessments
• Interview technology and business owners to validate current system configurations and evidence
• Map critical systems, data flows, dependencies and ownership structures
• Develop practical future-state architectures and compare delivery options
• Estimate effort, costs and dependencies for proposed technology changes
• Write clear findings and recommendations for technology leaders and executive audiences

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience leading enterprise architecture assessments in financial services or closely related regulated environments
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, data platforms and system integration
• Ability to connect technical decisions with business priorities, supplier arrangements and cost implications
• Experience producing both current-state maps and practical future-state designs
• Clear written communication and confident discussion skills with senior business and technology leaders
• TOGAF or equivalent practical architecture experience is valued
• Pensions administration experience is useful but not essential

Pay

This is a contract role with rates typically between £750 and £875 per day, depending on relevant experience. Rates exclude VAT where applicable. Contracting arrangements and tax status will be confirmed before assignment. Potential for further assignments by mutual agreement exists, though no minimum volume of work is guaranteed.
