What This Role Involves

As a Materials Technical Advisor at Wabtec, you'll serve as a specialist in materials science and engineering, ensuring that material selections meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. Your work will directly impact the reliability and durability of products serving the rail and transit industries. This role bridges engineering and operations, providing technical guidance on material specifications, sourcing, and quality assurance.

Your Responsibilities

• Evaluate and recommend material specifications for manufacturing processes and products
• Conduct material testing and analysis to verify performance and compliance with engineering standards
• Collaborate with engineering and procurement teams to support material sourcing decisions
• Review supplier certifications and material documentation to ensure regulatory compliance
• Troubleshoot material-related issues on production lines and provide technical solutions
• Maintain accurate records of material testing, approvals, and quality metrics
• Support cost reduction initiatives through material analysis and alternative sourcing

What We're Looking For

• Background in materials science, materials engineering, or related technical field
• Experience evaluating and specifying materials for manufacturing or industrial applications
• Knowledge of materials testing methods and quality standards
• Familiarity with relevant regulatory and compliance requirements in manufacturing
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, and procurement functions
