Manager I, Engineering – Security Libraries

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential observability technology company seeking an Engineering Manager to lead their security libraries engineering team in Paris. In this hands-on leadership role, you will:

• Lead, grow, and develop a team of 4-8 library engineers, providing coaching, direct feedback, and empowering senior individual contributors as technical leaders
• Own team delivery and productivity, including planning, milestones, reviews, and on-call rotation management
• Set product direction in partnership with Product Management, balancing priorities across multiple security product areas
• Stay technically engaged with the work by applying strong technical judgment, contributing code where it matters most, and maintaining high standards for quality and architecture
• Build strong cross-functional relationships and drive alignment across language teams, product, backend, and frontend partners
• Shape team identity and culture while owning accountability for team outcomes

The team maintains customer-side integrations for run-time security products, shipping security capabilities across seven open-source language libraries and HTTP proxy integrations that run in thousands of production clusters worldwide. Recent work includes exploit prevention, security detections, API security, code security tooling, and AI-assisted onboarding features.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven experience managing a team of engineers, including setting direction with Product Managers, owning a backlog, and running delivery
• Senior software engineering background with demonstrated strong technical judgment
• Track record of developing people through coaching, direct feedback, and helping engineers at all levels grow professionally
• Strong cross-team communication skills and comfort driving alignment across multiple stakeholders
• Experience building libraries, SDKs, developer tooling, or systems/run-time software
• Pragmatic product-engineering experience working with Product Managers and weighing technical trade-offs against customer impact

Preferred qualifications:

• Application security background (WAF, RASP, IAST/SCA) or adjacent observability/APM experience
• Hands-on experience with polyglot environments (.NET, Java, Go, Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP) or open-source stewardship
• Experience leading distributed or multi-language teams across many stakeholders

This is a hybrid role based in Paris, balancing people leadership with product and roadmap ownership and operational responsibility for code running at massive scale.
