Interpreter

San Bernardino Superior Court is recruiting certified interpreters for full-time positions based in Patton, San Bernardino County. This ongoing recruitment seeks to fill interpreter roles supporting the court system throughout the region.

The Opportunity

As an interpreter for the judicial system, you'll bridge language barriers and enable fair access to the courts. Working within San Bernardino Superior Court, you'll interpret for legal proceedings, ensuring clear and accurate communication between all parties and judicial officers. This role is central to our mission of providing equal justice under law to all who enter our courts.

Your Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, impartial interpretation during court proceedings and legal hearings
• Interpret conversations between judicial officers, attorneys, witnesses, plaintiffs, and defendants
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics in all court interactions
• Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Ensure precise communication of legal terminology, procedures, and proceedings
• Support the administration of justice through professional interpretation services
• Perform additional duties as assigned by court supervisors

Skills & Qualifications

• Current interpreter certification as required under California law
• Bilingual or multilingual fluency: English plus one or more additional language(s)
• Demonstrated knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures
• Excellent listening, verbal communication, and sustained concentration skills
• Professional demeanor and ability to remain impartial in sensitive legal situations
• Strong commitment to accuracy and ethical standards in all interpretation work
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and adapt to different speakers
